OBITUARIES Ewing, owner Grasonville, High School. In 1984, he was named the Outstanding Citizen of Queen Anne's County by the County Commission. He served on the board of the Chesterwye Center, a treatment center for the mentally retarded in Grasonville, and was chairman for its annual fund-raising dinner and auction. A charter member of the Bay Bridge Junior Chamber of Commerce, he also belonged to the Bay Country Lodge of the Moose. Known for his ability as a waterfowl hunter, he was a charter member of the Queen Anne's County unit Ritchie Highway and Jones Station Road they had owned since 1950.

Earlier, they had operated a hardware and ice business in Baltimore. She has lived in West Palm Beach, since her retirement. The former A. Elizabeth Lins was born in Baltimore. She was a life member of the Patterson Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star and had been active in the Asbury United Methodist Church in Arnold.

Her husband of 52 years, W. Julius Stevens, died in 1979. She is survived by her daughter, Laura Duncan of Stevensville; two sons. William J. Stevens Jr.

of Denton and Charles F. Stevens of Rehoboth Beach, a sister, Laura Busch of Bel Air; seven grandchildren; and six great -grandchildren. Cornelia R. Crist Retired teacher Services for Cornelia R. Crist, a retired Baltimore schoolteacher, will be held at 10 a.m.

today at the Evans funeral establishment, 2325 York Road in Timonium. Mrs. Crist, who was 83, died Monday in her sleep at Fairhaven, the Sykesville retirement community where she had lived for the past five years. She retired about 20 years ago as a teacher at the Jane Addams Junior High School. She had taught in city schools for more than 40 years.

The former Cornelia Ross was a native of Baltimore and a graduate of Western High School, what is now Towson State University and the Johns Hopkins University. She was a member of St. Thomas Episcopal Church in Towson. Her husband, Philip J. Crist, who was a singer and the host for the morning show on radio station WFBR-AM, died in 1981.

She is survived by a daughter, Nancy C. Llewelyn of Cockeysville; two granddaughters; and a greatgrandson. Latimer Alexander Was pharmacy owner Services for Latimer B. Alexander, the retired owner of the Halethorpe Pharmacy, will be held at 11 a.m. today at the Hubbard funeral establishment, 4107 Wilkens Ave.

Mr. Alexander, who was 80 and lived in Relay, died Tuesday at St. Agnes Hospital after a long illness. He retired in 1973 as owner of the drugstore he operated for more than 40 years, but he continued for more than five years to work part time as a pharmacist at other stores. The North Carolina native was a graduate of the University of Maryland pharmacy school and sold drugs for a wholesaler before opening his own business.

He was a member of the Catonsville Lodge of the Elks and the Pickering Lodge of the Masons. He had been fond of fishing in the bay and of deer hunting. Mr. Alexander is survived by a daughter, Carole Alexander of Relay; a son, Donald W. Alexander of Baltimore: his mother, Mabel Alexander of Gastonia, N.C.; and a sister, Camille Kiser of Dallas, N.C.

Hollis W. Norman Retired manager Services for Hollis W. Norman, retired assistant works manager at the Western Electric Co. plant in Baltimore, will be held at 1 p.m. tomorrow at the Mitchell-Wiedefeld funeral establishment.

Mr. Norman, who was 86 and lived on Southerly Court in Towson, died Tuesday at St. Joseph Hospital of heart failure. He retired in 1965 after holding the post at the Baltimore plant for five years. Ewing, who was 46 and lived in Chester, died Tuesday of cancer at the Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore. He owned Holly's Restaurant and Motel on U.S. 50 since 1979, when his father retired as the owner. Mr. Ewing began working at the restaurant and motel for his father while still in his teens.

Bowman, who was 74 and lived on Kellington Drive in Pasadena, died Tuesday of pneumonia at the Meridian Nursing Center in Severna Park. He retired from the Glen Burnie office of the Metropolitan Life Insurance Co. in 1978 after about 15 years of service. Earlier, he was a salesman for other insurance companies and a 1 religious-music record company and worked as a supervisor at the former Celanese Corp. plant in Cumberland.

Mr. Bowman was a native of Crellin, near Oakland. He served as chairman of the board of deacons at the Heritage Baptist Church in Annapolis and as president of the Kiwanis Club of the Severn, 0 of which he was a charter member. He also belonged to the East Gate Lodge of the Masons in Cumberland. He is survived by his wife, the former Nellie E.

"Gerry" Custer; four daughters, Barbara Swede of Hammond, Colleen Orndorff of Cincinnati, Janice Patterson of Ridgely and Joyce English of Greensboro, N.C.: a sister, Glendine Wolfe of Erie, 10 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. Earlier, he worked as a printer at the Government Printing Office in Washington and for The Baltimore Sun. Born in Baltimore, he was a gradquate of City College, the Anne Arundel Community College and the University of Maryland. He served in the U.S. Navy in the North Atlantic during World War II. Fond of gardening and boating, he was a member of the Joppa Lodge of the Masons and the Prince Frederick Lodge of the Elks.

He is survived by his wife, the former Ruth Cusic; two daughters, Roxanne L. Kastner of Prince Frederick and Judith L. McConnell of Frankfurt, West Germany: his mother, Dorothy A. Kastner of Randallstown: a brother, Donald L. Kastner of Randallstown; and two grandchildren.

Herb Miller, 74, the American band leader who brought the "Big Band" sound of his late brother Glenn Miller to thousands in the United States and Europe, died at his London home yesterday. He awakened with a headache, "fell down and never regained consciousness," said Jonathan Bailey, manager of the London-based Herb Miller Orchestra.

The band leader's 46-year-old son, John, will take over the 16-piece band, which will leave as scheduled Monday for a tour of Sweden and Norway, Mr. Balley said. Herb Miller, the youngest of the three music-loving Miller brothers, was born in North Platte, Neb. He first became Interested in music at the age of 12 when his oldest brother, I Deane, bought him a second-hand trumpet, and he played the instrument with his brothers whenever he could. In the 1930s, I Herb Miller went on the road with the Glenn Miller band as manager.

Herb got a job playing trumpet in Charlie Spivak's band, but quit to get his master's degree at the University of Michigan in 1939. There, he started his first band, which toured the country at the same time Glenn Miller was storming the United States with his "Big Band" sound. During World War 11, Glenn Miller's plane disappeared on a flight to Paris. In 1981, Herb came to London and formed a band with John Miller as lead singer, performing such Glenn Miller favorites as "String of Pearls," "Moonlight Serenade," "American Patrol" and "In The Mood." Herb Miller's last concert was Sunday at Paignton on England's southwest coast.
