H. Kirk-wood. bank commissioner, reported yesterday. Resources of these banks totaled $1,229,691,255, rising in the same period. But in reflection of seasonal trends, deposits were down for the first six months of 1956 and resources were down $21,948,593 for half year.

The tendency to increase loans and reduce commitments in Government securities continued in the period of rising interest rates. Total loans and discounts rose $26,726,461 in the first half of 1956 and increased $70,048,156 in the last year to reach a June 30 total of $504,570,784.
